3 Units 4-Axle Flatbed Semi Trailers to Kenya — Factory Dispatch Record

Three red 4-axle flatbed semi-trailers lined up and secured at Shuyue factory before dispatch to the port for shipment to Kenya

A repeat flatbed customer in Kenya confirmed three more units this season. The three 4-axle flatbed semi-trailers were finished, inspected and lashed at the Shuyue production base in Liangshan, then dispatched overland to Tianjin, the main vehicle export port in northern China, for the ocean leg to Mombasa. This is the record of that dispatch — what was specified, how the units were secured, and what the buyer received in documentation before the trailers left the yard.

About This Order

The buyer runs a haulage fleet on the Mombasa to Nairobi corridor, moving steel sections, pipes and construction materials inland to project sites. Their existing flatbeds were working close to their limits on the heavier loads, so the decision was to add axle capacity rather than add trips: four axles spread the same tonnage over more contact points and keep each unit within the axle limits the fleet has to work with.

Three units were ordered together so the fleet could rotate trailers through service without dropping a route. All three were built to the same specification, photographed through final inspection and dispatch, and shipped with their own document set.

Why Four Axles for This Order

Four axle lines sit between the standard tri-axle and the five-axle heavy hauler. For denser cargo — steel, pipes, bagged materials — the extra axle spreads the load instead of asking each tyre to carry more. The buyer's routes mix paved highway with rougher provincial road, so spreading load matters more than saving one axle's worth of tare weight.

The same four-axle frame with twist locks fitted also carries ISO containers. That flexibility is usually the deciding factor for a mixed-cargo fleet: the trailer stops being a single-purpose asset.

Dispatch Timeline

  1. Final inspection — weld runs, brake and light circuits, suspension torque checked unit by unit against the build sheet.
  2. Protective wrapping — valves, lamp housings, hoses and electrical connectors taped and wrapped for the sea leg.
  3. Deck preparation — timber blocking placed at the axle positions, so the units rest on load-bearing points rather than on the deck edge.
  4. Lashing — ratchet straps to the rated lashing points at each corner. Tension is re-checked before the convoy moves.
  5. Convoy to port — the three units ran together from the factory to Tianjin, with the export documents travelling alongside.

Export Packing and Sea Protection

Flatbed decks are open to salt air for the whole voyage, so the protection happens before the trailers leave the yard: anti-rust wax on exposed steel surfaces, PE film over lamps and valves, desiccant in the brake chambers, and edge protection at the lashing points. The trailers are dispatched only after the export packing is signed off, so what arrives in Mombasa is what left Liangshan.

Ocean Transit to Mombasa

The three units travel by road from our Liangshan base to Tianjin, where they are received at the port and loaded for the ocean leg. Flatbed semi-trailers cannot be driven onto a vessel under their own power, so they travel as breakbulk or on flat rack. Mombasa is the main gateway for cargo heading into Kenya, Uganda and the wider East African hinterland. Once the vessel sails we send the sailing schedule and the estimated arrival date, so the receiving side in Mombasa can plan clearance and inland haulage before the ship berths.

Documents in the Buyer's Hands Before Sailing

  • Commercial invoice and packing list covering the three units.
  • Bill of Lading support, issued in the buyer's name.
  • Certificate of Origin for Kenyan import clearance.
  • Dispatch photographs showing each trailer lashed and the convoy ready to move — the buyer retains a dated record of the condition at dispatch.

Tip: ask for the timestamped dispatch photo set before the vessel sails. It is the cheapest way to confirm the condition of your trailers while they are still at the port, and it takes one message. Request the dispatch photos on WhatsApp.

Frequently Asked Questions

How are flatbed semi-trailers shipped to Kenya?

They are lashed onto the road convoy at the factory, hauled to Tianjin, and shipped as breakbulk or on flat rack, since a trailer has no engine and cannot drive aboard. Mombasa is the usual port of discharge for Kenyan buyers.

Can I order a different axle count or container locks on the same flatbed?

Yes. This flatbed is available in 3-axle, 4-axle and 5-axle configurations, and the four-axle version can be supplied with 8 twist locks for 20 ft and 40 ft containers. Deck length, side rails and paint colour are also specified to order.

What documents come with the trailers and how do I track the shipment?

Commercial invoice, packing list, Bill of Lading support and Certificate of Origin are prepared for every unit. We send the sailing schedule and estimated arrival date once the vessel leaves, and you can reach the export manager on WhatsApp at any point for a status update.

Planning a flatbed order into Kenya?
