About this topic

Importing a semi-trailer is mostly a paperwork problem, not a transport problem. This section covers what each West African market asks for before a trailer is released: the Form M and PAAR process in Nigeria, SONCAP product certification, the HS code your duty is calculated on, and the axle load and dimension rules that decide which trailer you can register.

Who it is for: fleet owners importing their first trailer, clearing agents checking a document set, and buyers comparing what different suppliers will actually provide with the shipment.

Common questions about this topic

What documents are needed to import a semi-trailer into Nigeria?

Importers usually need a Form M, a PAAR assessment, a valid SONCAP product certificate or certificate of conformity, the bill of lading, commercial invoice and packing list. We provide the shipping documents and specifications your agent needs for the application.

Do semi-trailers need SONCAP certification?

Semi-trailers are handled under the SONCAP regime as regulated products. You apply through the SONCAP portal for a product certificate before shipment, and that certificate is used when the Form M and PAAR are processed.

How is import duty on semi-trailers calculated?

Duty is calculated on the customs value under the HS code for your trailer type, plus levies and VAT at the rates in force when the Form M is processed. Your clearing agent can confirm the current rates before you ship.

Who handles customs clearance?

Unless CIF or DAP terms are agreed in writing, clearance and local charges are handled by your own clearing agent. We supply the full document set in advance so the agent can file without delay.

Can you ship to ports outside Lagos?

Yes. We can quote to other West African ports and to destinations in East Africa, the Gulf and South America. Tell us your preferred port and we will confirm routing and freight.

Still deciding what you need?

Send your route, payload and axle preference. We reply with drawings and a factory price.
